Greek Yogurt "Cheese" Balls

By December 15, 2009

Follow me on:

This holiday season I decided it was time to re-invent the cheese ball. The cheese ball in my memory is orange and covered with nuts. Somehow, that didn't sound appealing anymore. If you feel the same way, then try my simple recipe for lovely little cheese balls covered with olive oil, basil, garlic and red pepper flakes. They are actually made with Greek-style yogurt, which tends to be thicker than regular yogurt and when drained of excess moisture becomes thick enough to form into balls. The balls hold their shape but spread very easily with a knife. The flavor is creamy, rich and just a bit tangy - it reminds me a little bit of fresh goat cheese.

If you're trying to save money this year and give homemade gifts, I think these delicious cheese balls are just the thing. Store them in a pretty glass jar, and your foodie friends will love it.
