Apples With Sugar and Spice

Tart Granny Smith apples work best for this recipe. A small amount of brown sugar sweetens the apples up and this sweetness is what pairs so well with the saltiness of cheese. Serve with sharp, white Cheddar cheese and crackers.

Serves 3-6 with cheese

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • 1 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp water

Preparation:

Slice apple in halves, then quarters. Peel each apple quarter. Dice apple slices into small pieces.

To a saute pan over medium heat, add apples and vinegar. Vinegar will quickly evaporate. Add butter. When butter melts, add cinnamon and brown sugar, stirring to coat apples. Add water. Turn heat to low. Put a lid on the pan and cook for five minutes to soften apples.

Remove lid. Turn heat to medium and cook 5-7 minutes longer to slightly brown apples. Cool before serving.
