Who doesn't like a grilled cheese sandwich? This Grilled Gruyere and Ham Sandwich Recipe gives a grilled cheese sandwich a little more flavor. Gruyere has a fairly strong and salty flavor and tends to pair best with slightly sweet ham, like maple honey.

Instead of Gruyere, try other types of cheese that are delicious in grilled sandwiches.

Grilled Gruyere and Ham Sandwich recipe makes one sandwich, but can easily be multiplied

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread (try sourdough)
  • 4 thin slices of Gruyere cheese
  • 3 thin slices of ham
  • 1-2 teaspoons mustard
  • butter or olive oil

Preparation:

Spread butter on one side of each bread slice, or drizzle with olive oil. On the other side of one slice, spread mustard. On top of the mustard layer cheese and ham between bread slices.

In a pan over medium-low heat, brown each side of the sandwich until crispy. Using a lid will insure that the cheese melts as the bread browns.

Slice and serve
