Croutons make any salad a little more tasty. This Cheese Crouton recipe takes it one step further by giving homemade croutons a cheese topping. You can use practically any type of cheese - some to try are Cheddar, Gruyere, Asiago, Parmigiano-Reggiano or Manchego.

Yield: 4-6 cups croutons
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of French bread (fresh or slightly stale)
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup grated cheese, or more to taste
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350
Slice the loaf of bread into 1-inch squares.
Put the bread cubes in a baking pan and toss with olive oil.
Bake for 15 minutes, then sprinkle cheese on top. Bake for 15 more minutes, stirring if necessary to prevent burning.
