Lavash is thin and crispy flatbread - almost more like a cracker than bread. Making your own is easier than you might think and you can serve the homemade flatbread with a cheese plate or use it as a pizza crust.

If you're interested in making flatbread pizza from scratch, try one of these flatbread pizza recipes with unique toppings like mushrooms and blue cheese, kale and ricotta or fennel and feta.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Yield: 2 flatbread pizzas

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 2/3 cup + 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation:

Mix the flour and salt

Whisk together the water, egg and 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Stir together wet and dry ingredients then knead with your hands until the dough comes together

Split the dough into two balls. Let the balls rest while the oven preheats to 400

Lightly grease two un-rimmed cookie sheets. Place the cookie sheets on a flat surface with a towel underneath so they don't slip. Place one ball of dough on each cookie sheet and roll the dough out as thin as possible - the thinner the dough, the crispier the flatbread

Brush each flatbread with 1 tablespoon of olive oil (and sprinkle with sea salt if desired)

Bake for 15=20 minutes, or until the flatbread is lightly browned and crispy
